Anjelica
Girl, Born 2003
Anjelica was half-orphaned by her mother who died of heart attack. She was then cared for by her maternal grandmother who later died due to old age. With the latter’s death, the custody of Anjelica went to her maternal grandmother’s brother and sister-in-law, who subsequently referred her to the orphanage considering that they are also old with no sufficient income. While at the orphanage Anjelica’s father appeared and signed the deed of voluntary commitment relinquishing Anjelica to the care of the state. Anjelica’s father claimed incapability to provide for the child’s needs.
In 2007, Anjelica was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and ventricular septal defect. She also had TB in the same year. She was also as born with Down syndrome.
Anjelica is undernourished and is continually provided with Pediasure milk twice a day to supplement her food intake and improve her weight. She measures 85 centimeters in height and weighs 9.2 kilograms. Due to her congenital heart disease-ventricular septal defect, Anjelica takes lanoxin, aldactone, and furosemide.
At her age she can sit, stand alone for several minutes and make 3 to 5 steps without assistance. She can walk sideways holding on to the rails but most of the time she prefers to crawl than walk. She can hold objects and make actions like clapping, waving good-bye, and do flying kisses to familiar persons. She knows her name and understands simple instructions. She can also feed herself with snacks and drinks in a training cup without assistance. She can say bi-syllable words and uses body language or gestures to communicate what she wants. She easily cries if she does not get what she wants but is easily pacified. She is not yet toilet trained and needs assistance from her caregivers.
Anjelica enjoys and dances to music. She also loves playing with toys and participates in the activities provided by her caregivers. She is also comfortable even with strangers. Anjelica was referred to the Philippine Heart Center and is still under observation by her pediatric-cardiologist.

Shawna (3)
Girl, Born March 2, 2004
Shawna has grown so much since her last photo! She is walking now, very social and affectionate. She has already turned 6 and is facing imminent institutionalization. She is healthy, but is considered severely delayed. PLEASE give Shawna a chance to be everything she can be, in a loving family who supports her and encourages her to grow and learn.
Shawna and Lindsay could be adopted together.

Lena (36)
Girl, Born November 2, 2004
Lena is a beautiful little girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She was born with Down syndrome, but also struggles with the effects of possible CP and likely some autistic tendencies. She is able to walk on her own and is described as very active, but she does not socialize very much with the other children and is non verbal at this time. It is children like Lena that break my heart so badly, because in an institutional setting, which she is facing soon, she will just continue to close off into herself and truly become one of those children we envision as "institutionalized". :( I know there is a family out there for this very deserving little girl!

1kgw0-2JH Angelina R. Brothers and sisters no Date of Birth: July 8, 2004 Gender: Female Eyes: Brown Hair: dark brown
Angelina is the very best friend of Elizabeth, listed below. And although they can't be adopted together into the same family, what a blessing it might be to find adoptive families who live close enough to maintain their friendship!
Angelina is diagnosed with: Down syndrome, moderate mental deficiency; congenital myopia of high degree with astigmatism, amblyopia of high degree, retinal angiopathy; dermatitis; allergic rhinitis; adenoids; liquefaction of the 1st degree; additional chord of the left ventricle of heart, but there is no heart disease.
Though Angelina doesn’t talk much – only some separate words, she is a sociable child. She interacts with adults and other children, and has one close friend Elizaveta whom she spends most of the time. When Elizaveta was taken to hospital Angelina missed her much.
Judging by Angelina’s face expression, and her behavior reactions she understands adults’ speech adequately. She can fulfill caregivers’ directions. She likes to play plot games (especially with baby dolls and hairdresser set) and she also likes meccano, and coloring books. Angelina can wash her face, hands and get dressed without anyone’s help. She eats with a spoon and drinks from a cup. She has a VERY good appetite and sleeps well. She is potty (toilet) trained.

Kate (46)
Girl, Born December 28, 2003
This beautiful, brown haired, brown eyed angel is living a dream when it comes to orphanage life. She is already 5 years old, but is living in a "school", where she actually has an opportunity to learn. She is just SO beautiful, look at her! God has given her a second chance, and saved her from a level 4 mental institution. She was diagnosed with a cardiomyopathy, but you can see from her photos that she is doing well, is very active, and clearly able to learn, or else they would never have sent her to this place.
Please give Kate a loving family, to show her true potential! She is in the same orphanage with Dasha, and can be adopted together.

Angelia
Girl, Born April 7, 2001
Angelia has been living in an institution for 5 years. Yet she is healthy, active, happy and SO ready for a family to love her and show her what her life is supposed to be like. She does have some strabismus, but no heart condition. The orphanage staff tell us she does like to play with toys, is interactive and affectionate, and has "potential to improve".
Angelia is in a place where we have successfully adopted several children out of, and those families can tell you horror stories about many of the other kids there. Angelia is strong and healthy, despite her surroundings. What a miracle it would be to save her!

Isabelle #2-2
(child's name has been changed to protect their identity)
Girl, Born February 14, 2002
From her medical records:
The child is in a very good general condition. Elementary thinking processes are observed. She can't speak but pronounces sounds and combinations of sounds: ba-ba, etc. that are completely random. She knows her name and reacts when called. She carries out elementary orders. She is not oriented for place and time. Her attention is unstable, her memory is mechanic.
In emotional aspect the child is calm, merry and playful. She enjoys the attention that she is paid and actively seeks it. She easily enters into interaction with the children and the adults in the orphanage. She has friends among the children and prefers to play with them. She reacts actively in musical classes - makes rhythmical movements, but almost doesn't play with toys and prefers to put them in her mouth or toss them.
The child walks independently and carries out the orders of the physical therapist - crouches, stands up. She already eats by herself. She doesn't signal about her physiological needs and is taken care of entirely by the personnel of the orphanage.
The child is being taught to put her clothes on and take them off on her own. The training for gaining life skills continues.

Lindsay (3)
Girl, Born May 30, 2004
Lindsay is a beautiful girl who has endured much in her ilfe in this orphanage. She was born with a secondary heart condition, although it may have rectified itself. She is considered severely delayed, and is working on her walking, even as she is turning 6 years old. This orphanage has a history of medicating the children, so she has spent much of her life in a crib, repressed....
Lindsay desperately needs a family who has experience adopting older children with special needs, and who has the time to give her to help her recover from this neglect and blossom into the child she is meant to be.
More photos available. She is facing the institution very soon, and is blessed to still be at the baby house. Someone please save her. |

Tara
Girl, Born September 30, 2002
China
She is extroverted and can express her feelings very well. When she is happy she will greet you warmly and embrace you enthusiastically; if she thinks that she was treated wrongly she will make sharp sound and cry loudly to blow off her discontent. She has made great physical progress and can go up and down stairs and loves to dance around!

Natalia
Girl, Born March 5, 2002
This beautiful little girl is waiting for her family to give her the chance to really blossom. Natalia was born with a complete AV canal, but she has had surgery and is totally healthy now. She is not taking any medications for her heart. She is a darling girl, but nonverbal. She is quite low functioning at this time. She is able to sit and crawl, she can stand with support, can climb in and out of her bed & cruise around the furniture in her room, but she is not walking independently at this time. She is not eating by herself either, but she certainly has the ability to learn to do all of these things in a family environment!
From a staff member that visited Natalia in April 2010: Natalia is a very happy little girl who clearly loves attention. She would take our hands and blow on them to make raspberry noises and then just laugh and laugh. She did this over and over and would go from person to person reaching and taking our hands and blowing raspberries. She climbed in our laps and gave hugs. She responded very well to the attention that we were giving her and despite the years she has spent in her current environment, she still has a sparkle in her eye.
Additional photos of Natalia are available.

She enjoys affection, responds well to being cuddled, and is a very happy child.
Photo and medical report were updated in February 2010.

"Natalija", L60
Girl, Born on March 16, 2001
This blue-eyed, blonde-haired beauty needs a loving family to thrive in! Natalija is described as active and friendly. She doesn't like to be told "no" or be reprimanded, and cries as a result (aaahh, girls!). Natalija likes to play games with her peers, even if she doesn't quite understand the rules. She is friendly and responsive, and is very loving towards her caregivers and friends. she is very good at playing independently and focusing on the task in front of her. She is stubborn sometimes, but I have found that this is a common trait of children with Down syndrome! Natalija does have a few words and basic self-service skills. She can dress and undress without help, and also eats and drinks unassisted.

"Veronika", L 59
Girl, Born on April 18, 2001
Veronika is another Baltic beauty, with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is described as calm and well-behaved. She willingly performs directions from adults, and waits for encouragement and praise for doing a good job. Veronika is very observant...she keeps a close watch on adult’s speech and action, understands directions with the help if gestures/signs, tries to imitate adult behaviors, and reacts very positively to praise. She doesn't like to be reprimanded. Veronika gladly engages in contact with a known adult, is cautious in contact with strangers, can cooperate with peers, and can play common games. Nevertheless, she plays very well on her own as well. She is able to act consistently and determinedly when she has a good routine (this is another common thread for children with Down syndrome). She has difficulties "switching gears" quickly. She can analyze and compare in a simple level, but cannot separate colors and sizes yet. She has a small vocabulary, is familiar with the parts of the body, eats independently, drinks from a cup, observes manners at the table, dresses and undresses alone, and brushes her teeth without assistance. Sounds like the perfect child to me!
