MARY ELLEN & JAKOB for the Blatt family--Highland Heights, OH
It is always a special opportunity to find a family for an older child! We are so very happy for Mary Ellen!
The Blatt family lives in Ohio where Susan directs a non-medical home care agency. She has two wonderful daughters, Grace (13) adopted from China in 1997, and Martha (11) adopted from China in 2000. Because one of the girls has a significant special need, this family has a developed a deep love for all special needs children. And God has also shown them His heart regarding the love and care of children who are without forever families. Wanting to live out this knowledge and expand their family again through adoption, Susan and the girls decided to open their home to foster children, and became licensed to provide foster care through a local Christian foster care agency.
Shortly after becoming licensed Susan became aware of Reece's Rainbow, and the desire to adopt a child with Down Syndrome was quickly ignited. It was almost overwhelming to read the profiles of so many precious children knowing that they all deserved a loving family. She trusted God to show her the child she should pursue for adoption, and it soon became clear that Mary Ellen was a perfect match for her family. Grace and Martha are truly excited about having a younger sister, and can't wait to make her feel welcome and loved. God has been faithful as He has formed this adoptive family one child at a time, and they trust Him to provide the means again to add another special little girl. They are forever grateful for His goodness!

| MARTINE for The Gleason Family--Troutdale, OR

Martine came to the US through a medical advocacy group, as she desperately needed heart surgery. In June her host family picked her up in Haiti. Just several days later she was hospitalized at Emanuel Children?s Hospital for an upper respiratory infection where I was her nurse. Her host mom had told me her story & that she was adoptable. It wasn?t until the following month in July when she had her heart surgery that I knew she would be ours. As I looked at her in her ICU room still attached to her breathing tube & monitors that I pleaded to God saying, ?Oh Lord, she needs a mommy. Help us find her a family.? His response to me was, ?you can be her mom. You can provide her a family.? That night I discussed it with my husband & we agreed that he & our two boys would go meet her in the hospital before she was discharged. He took our 3 yr old Meshach & Azariah (3months) to meet Mari who was 9 months at the time. Yes, Mari & Azariah are only 3 months apart!
We also have a teenager, Josh Sandoval, living with us & he is very much part of our family. He moved in with us over a year ago with the goal of completing his high school diploma.
In October we received guardianship of Mari & we have been working on medical visa extensions to keep her with us until the adoption is finalized. We are so blessed that we have been able to bring her into our home while the adoption process is still taking place. She has adapted well to our family & our boys love her dearly.
Currently our Dossier is complete & translated. It is ready to be sent to Haiti, however the orphanage is still working on getting their license to adopt children out and our adoption cannot move forward until they receive their license.
3/9/10---HAS BEEN HOME IN THE US FOR 18 MONTHS, ADOPTION NOT FINAL, BUT MARTIEN IS HERE ON A MEDICAL VISA AND WAS NOT IN HAITI AT THE TIME OF THE EARTHQUAKE

ALYONA for the Swerdfeger Family--Laguna Hills, CA
The Missing Swerd
This is the story of a family and their journey to find the missing member(s).
Brian and April have been married for almost 23 years and have two smart, beautiful, talented and all-around great girls. They’ve had their trials and have been tested seemingly beyond measure, but through it all God has seen them through. His faithfulness and grace are more than enough, and they continually have the opportunity to live-out their faith in everyday life. They are blessed indeed.
One of the ongoing story lines of their life is that they regret not having more children. They’ve loved every minute of raising their girls, and have always wished for a bigger family, but they made the mistake of thinking they were “done” after the birth of their second daughter, Kelsey.
"We thought we were done, and like many couples I went to the doctor for a vasectomy" states Brian. "He asked “are you sure?” and we thought we were. Little did we know the heartache and emptiness that would grow in our hearts as we realized our mistake over the years to come." April adds, "many years later, we heard of a doctor in Los Angeles that specialized in vasectomy reversals, and had great success helping men become fertile again. It was an expensive long shot, but one we were willing to take for the hope of having more children." After the intensive micro-surgery and painful recovery, they tried and tried to conceive, but alas they had joined the world of couples struggling with infertility and hope seemed dim.
Through it all they never lost the feeling that their family was incomplete – they trusted God to let them know when and how more kids would come into their lives. They volunteered, they coached, they taught, they cared for others, and they loved. They knew their hearts had room for more, but they also knew God had a plan that was better than theirs. Then, through God’s perfect grace and providence, He reminded them that He loves us all, and that perhaps the missing Swerd was waiting to be adopted!
I believe it was the great philosopher Horton who once said, “I believe in you all.? A person's a person, no matter how small!? And you very small persons will not have to die, if you make yourselves heard! So come on, now, and try!" Thanks to the internet, they heard her voice all the way from Eastern Europe.

OLIVIA for the Loraine family--Little Rock, AR
Larry and Erin have 2 sons, Clayton (10) and Evan (7). They are excited to be in the process of adding Olivia to their family.
Larry and Erin are highschool sweethearts who have been married for 13 years. They are currently missionaries with Campus Crusade for Christ and serve at FamilyLife, a ministry to marriages and families. Erin has had a heart for special needs children since she was a child herself and holds a degree in Special Education.
Recently God called them both to a special needs adoption, and originally they intended to adopt through the state. God, however, was working on Larry and leading him to consider an international adoption. After looking at the Reece's Rainbow website the whole family fell in love with Olivia. Their boys are very excited to have a sister and they all look forward to the day that they can bring her home!

VIVIENNE & LAURA for the Parker family--Grant's Pass, OR
Charley & Kate Parker have 7 biological children (18, 17, 10, 8, 8, 6 & almost-4 years). Several of their children have special needs ranging from the physical challenges of chiari malformation & spina bifida to neurological conditions including autism, Asperger’s & ADHD. Life with kids who have special needs has become their “normal,” and while they recognize that their life is not typical by most people‘s definition, they truly enjoy their children (quirks & all) and have learned to take each challenge that comes their way in stride.
God led the family to Reece’s Rainbow in 2008 and learning about the plight of orphans who get sent to institutions broke their hearts, but some initial investigation into adoption made it clear that the time was not right to proceed. Then, in October, 2009, God again placed the desire to adopt on Charley & Kate’s hearts and once again led them to Reece’s Rainbow, where they felt an immediate “pull” toward Vivienne & Laura. Instead of jumping right in, the couple committed to praying for the girls and waiting for God to move them the next step. They asked their teenagers, Megan & Adam, to pray about which girls God wanted to be their sisters and both teens separately came to their parents to say they believed God wanted Vivienne & Laura to join the family. With that confirmation, Charley & Kate shared Vivienne & Laura’s pictures with their 5 other children to get their opinions about the possibility of adopting the girls. All 5 children were unanimously excited and joyful at the prospect of having two new sisters, so with the family in full agreement that Vivienne & Laura were the girls that God wanted them to adopt, they continued to wait on the Lord to direct their steps, praying daily for the girls. In January, they felt God prompting them to move forward and they located an adoption agency to do their home study & began that process. Charley contacted Andrea to get more information about the girls & in a step of faith, told her the family planned to commit officially to the girls by the end of January even though he knew the money was not yet secured to do so. His belief was that if the family was hearing God correctly and adopting the girls was what He wanted them to do, He would provide whatever amount of money was needed for each step of the journey.
Through donations from online friends and strangers who were moved to help, the needed funds to commit to Vivienne & Laura were raised and God, in His perfect timing, enabled the Parker family to honor Charley’s pledge to Andrea ~ he & Kate were able to mail in their commitment funds for the girls.
The family is already amazed at the ways they have seen God move as they have stepped out in faith to adopt, and they know that He will be with them every moment of their incredible journey to bring their two new daughters/sisters home. They are thankful for the kindness of others who have felt led to help them financially thus far and they ask that anyone reading this will prayerfully consider making a donation to help their family meet the rest of their adoption expenses.

They felt they had a lot of love to give and wanted to share that love. They started the process with the thought of adopting domestically; however, God had different plans. They never thought of adopting internationally, but Jenny received information on one of the children on Reece's Rainbow. Immediately, she knew she was looking at her daughter. ARTYOM, NASTYA, & MAXIM for the Brown family--Louisburg, NC
Artyom, Nastya and Maxim have not been forgotten! In 2009. during the Brown's last adoption trip, these 3 beautiful children left an impression on Steven and Jenny's hearts. As they left the country , Jenny and Steven were heart broken to leave them and prayed that they would find a family soon. God works in amazing/mysterious ways ...... and after many months they could not ignore His call anymore to save them from a life institutionalized. They will return back again to Eastern Europe to go get them and give them the gift of family.
Steven and Jenny have been married for 13 years. Steven works on the family farm and is a stay at home dad, Jenny is Pediatric ICU RN. They have been parents to over 20 children. They were foster parents. They have 2 grown children, 2 biological children together, 12 adopted children (9 were adopted from the USA foster care system, 3 adopted from Eastern Europe in 2009). The 3 children adopted in 2009 have Down Syndrome and were made known to them through Reeces Rainbow. Nicholas and Oksana had open heart surgery once they arrived to the US and are doing excellent. Noah (4) has reached many goals such as walking and feeding himself. These children have adjusted very well and are loved so very much by all their brothers and sisters.
Please help this family in anyway you can. They have committed their lives to children, especially orphans with special needs. They hope help will come from many that know and don't know them as they start this journey again.

As with their move from Iowa to Michigan, they feel that God’s guiding hand has a HUGE role in the direction of their lives. Jeff is a critical care transport nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital and is a Jeep guy. Tina has the best job ever homeschooling their children. Harry, 11, enjoys all things electronic and is an outstanding leader. Tucker, 9, (in his words) is “the meat” of the family (currently he is the middle child). Tuck enjoys climbing trees and poking at the ground with sticks. Lucy, the princess, is 6. She loves dance, gymnastics, drawing, and playing the piano. MARSHALL, ASHLEIGH, & ELIZABETH for the Lutz family--Wilson Creek, WA

From the day they met, Laura and David Lutz dreamed of a large family, and six children later (plus one in Heaven) it seems that God has blessed them with their dream. Part of their dream has been to adopt, and now that part is coming true also!
Laura is an OB nurse, and David is a carpenter-turned-nursing-student, due to graduate this year and start a new career. Although they love their work, their family has always been the main focus. As David says, “Logically, we’re the perfect people to adopt these kids—our whole life centers on this house and this family!” They don’t really have hobbies, because their kids are their hobby. As their kids were growing up, and moving on, David and Laura didn’t feel ready to be done with their favorite activity, so they asked God for more children, and now he’s blessing them again!
Eighteen years ago, David and Laura put down roots in a tiny, rural town where everyone knows everyone, and they live in a big, old, rambling house. They like gardening, camping, fishing, reading, homeschooling, cooking, and attending church, where David loves to debate theology. The Lutz children were brought up to be best friends, and family get-togethers are full of laughter, wrestling, eating and karaoke.
The Lutz family looks forward to bringing Elizabeth, Ashleigh and Marshall into their noisy, rowdy, loving clan.

CHARLIE for the Harper family--Midland, TX
Sid & Wendy Harper have been married for 17yrs & live in Midland, Tx. They have "7" children; Lacey(15), Sydnie(12), Baylie(10), Jonathan(7), Tate(6), Emmy(4) & Kenlie(2). After praying and yearning to adopt for many years, they felt God calling them to add to their family.
Over time God continued to place adults & children with DS in their path, and drew them to volunteer in the special needs class at their church. Through the Spencer family's journey to adopt(Pavel) we found RR. As Wendy would pray for specific children over the past year, she would check back to find that their forever family had found them! After months of praying for Charlie, God spoke to Wendy's heart and she knew Charlie was waiting on THEIR family. The final nudge from God came as they watched in amazement as the faith of an 11yr old girl (Lydia) brought the funds to adopt Darya in a matter of 9 days!! (see the Hollis family for Darya). The Harper family feels that they have been blessed abundantly and want to share that with little Charlie, knowing that He has chosen them to be his Mommy & Daddy.

LACIE for the Adamson family--Rapid City, SD

The Adamson family had already been blessed with 5 biological children when their family began to pray about adopting. John had a heart to adopt since becoming a believer of Jesus Christ before they were married, for he knew God had adopted them as His children through faith in Christ. They began praying more about special needs adoption after seeing the great difference that a family's love and care made for a little boy with a severe disability. When they heard about Reece's Rainbow and began learning of the tremendous need as well as the plight of disabled orphans in other countries, they were overwhelmed and wanted to help. After much prayer and research, they decided to adopt a 3 year-old boy with Down Syndrome named Slava on RR. Before leaving to adopt, they found out about a little girl with Down Syndrome at the same orphanage who needed a family. They decided to open their home to Lacie also and made preparations to bring 2 home. However, at their SDA appointment they found out that Lacie was not yet available after all as her paperwork wasn't ready yet. They were sad and disappointed but knew that God was ultimately in control. John, Traci and their 3 oldest children traveled in April/May 2009 and brought home their son (brother) whom they named Sean. While there they got to see Lacie..….they were so glad to see her but sad that they could not help her when they were already there. They knew it would be very difficult to come back again-- for financial and other reasons, so at that time they had to let her go. In the meantime, the Adamson's welcomed their baby brother Aidan into the family in October 2009. After being home for 6 months, Lacie was still been heavy on their hearts and in their prayers…especially, Haylee and Naomi, who kept asking if they could adopt her. Since the Adamsons are seeking to get out of debt, their Daddy's honest reply was that God would have to provide. Knowing He can, and being encouraged by His provision previously and provision for another family, Haylee and Naomi asked if they could seek to fundraise for Lacie. They wrote a letter to family and friends and began making crafts to sell. While there is much to raise still, God has begun providing. Having enough to start theirr homestudy update, the Adamson children were surprized and delighted to learn of their family's commitment to Lacie on Christmas morning.
Going overseas to adopt at the orphanage was life changing for the Adamson family, who saw firsthand the great need of so many precious children who have no one to love them. God strengthened their desire and conviciton to help orphans, especially special needs orphans who are discarded, less likely to be adopted and face institutionalization. They want to save Lacie and give her the love of a family.
“Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know, and holds us responsible to act”. Proverbs 24:12
Please join the Adamsons in their journey to bring this precious girl home….they would be so thankful for your prayers and support.

IRINA for the Allen family--Minooka, IL
Tim and Cindy have been married for 13 years, and are blessed with 3 children, Amy (11), Samuel (3), and Seth (18mos). They have been burdened for orphans since 2004 when God began tugging at their hearts. In 2005, they began a journey to adopt from Mexico, but the journey ended when another family was chosen instead of them. It all made sense when Cindy found out she was pregnant in Jan. of 2006 with their son Samuel Lee. Then 20 months later, Seth Levi was born. In the midst of the busyness, adoption had not crossed their minds. Until they met a special family, who helped answer their questions, and introduced them to the HIV + children on Reece’s Rainbow. After much prayer, they know their family will not be complete until they bring Irina safely home. Tim and Cindy have placed this journey in the Lord’s hands, and trust Him to provide for all their needs.

Gabe and Melanie are excited to begin their adoption journey and bring Stephanie (Russia, Region 5) into their family. They talked about adopting a child someday even while dating, and finally believe it’s time to make that dream a reality. They married 8 years ago and 3 children quickly followed. When their youngest turned 1, they began seriously praying for God to reveal His will for their family. After coming across the Reece’s Rainbow website, they both felt they were being called to open their home to one of these little ones. Although she was not one of the ones they originally had considered, Stephanie’s face kept coming to Melanie’s mind and it seemed as if God was saying that she was the one for them. They are so looking forward to the adventure and challenges ahead and are depending on God’s grace and strength for every step of the way.

DOLLY for the Kacirek Family--Rogers, AR
Randy and Tina have been married for 13 years and have 4 children. Big brothers Holden 10 and Liam 8 are biological children and in 2004 Grace was adopted from Ukraine. She is now 7. Their little baby girl Rainan (bio) was born in March and all of the children love having a baby in the house. After spending time in Ukraine and able to see the plight of orphans with special needs, it was laid on Randy and Tina's heart to begin advocating for the orphan. Grace's special needs due to fetal alcohol syndrome and institutionalization caused them to dig deeper into helping. Grace learned to talk at 4 and she is now learning her ABC's and to count. She has far surpassed what her prognosis stated and it is with great joy they thank the Lord for her. In 2006 they began a ministry called Grace Haven in which they work to educate, spiritually support and give grants to families who are considering, in the process or are already adoptive families working through healing heart connections. Their web address is www.gracehavenhome.com
About a year ago during the process of remodeling a bathroom in their home they felt impressed to prepare it for a child who would need help walking and so installed in faith a shower with seating. They didn't know when but that it was a matter of time. After coming to visit Reece's Rainbow site to visit another friends page, they came upon Dolly and felt that she was the match that had been placed on their heart many months ago. MARAT for the Carden family--Cottondale, AL
Marat is a handsome young man who is 11 years old. Dan and Janie Carden have stepped forward to rescue him from a life on the streets, and provide him with a loving family, adequate medical care, and the best quality of life that he so deserves.
Dan is the Headmaster of a Christian school in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Janie is an administrator there as well. Dan and Janie have four biological children of their own, three boys and a girl. Their youngest is 23 and was married in August 2009. Their oldest son is an F-16 pilot in the US Air Force and has been married for 5 years. That son, Chris ,and his wife, Kristina, adopted 2 beautiful children in June 2009 from Ukraine. While they were at the orphanage they told stories of a little boy who was older than the other children but helped the workers with the younger children. One day our son wrote on his blog of this boy standing by the fence crying because he had no one to love him. That story haunted the Cardens for many months. After many sermons on the essence of true religion (taking care of the widows and orphans) Dan and Janie decided to pursue the adoption of this little boy. They said if we don’t do it, who will?

Clark and Angie Hook have been married for 16 years. They have 3 children: Tori (15/bio), Jace (11/domestic adoption) and Levi (2/domestic adoption/DS). The Hooks always knew that adoption was going to be a part of how their family would grow. Special needs adoption was never on their radar until a friend called and said she knew of a baby with Down syndrome who needed a home. They sought after many people's opinions and did much research, but then realized the only question that needed answering was, "Is this what God wants for our family?". It indeed was! You can see Levi's story here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoI-SD0_CeA) Their family has been changed forever because of that decision and they knew that God was calling them to adopt another one who is considered, "the least of these." Each member of the family is excited to be bringing Evangeline home! The kids already think it has taken to long! There will be no shortage of attention for her. MAXSIM for the Stickley family--Oldtown, MD
Tina is the proud mother of two precious daughters. Mary, 18, is an EMT and a firefighter, lives on her own, and is in her first year of college. She is on her way to becoming a paramedic. Annie, 10, lives at home, is in the 5th grade at the same school where Tina works, and is quite a pianist. Tina is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. She is also a Certified School Counselor and works for a public school system in West Virginia. She remembers being a small child and dreaming of adopting special needs children. Life circumstances prohibited this but the desire never left her heart. One night while having "before bed snuggle time" Annie announced that she felt that God wanted them to adopt a boy. She did not know about her mother's childhood dream. Tina says that she is "blessed with two supportive daughters, a wonderful home, fantastic work hours (summers and holidays off!), and a strong unexplainable love for a little boy that she can't wait to bring home. Annie is so excited that she confidently announced that she would pay for the adoption and Mom could buy his clothes and everything he needs once he comes home. Annie is completely convinced that this is what God wants her to do and is trusting Him to provide her the finances. Even though she no longer lives there, Mary is already wanting to decorate his room (fire trucks, of course), and wants to buy him the world.

The Silva family then moved to Germany were they had their first daughter, Elisha.
Mike got out of the Army in 2001 but went right back to work for the Army as a contractor. He spent the next 3 1/2 years in Kuwait and Iraq. Hosanna was born and he decided to try and stay home with the family. The family moved just north of Seattle in 2005 where Mike went to work for Crista Ministries. The family kept growing adding Elizabeth,Jubilee and Titus.
Now the Silvas are at a new juncture in their lives. They found Naya though Reece's Rainbow and were instantly in love. Though they were not looking to adopt right away they felt God moving and so heeded the call. They look forward to finding out how the Lord work in their family during this time.

CATHRYN & CONNER for the Scoda family-- Fayetteville, NC
The Scoda family lives in NC where Jay is stationed with the military. Jay and Trina have 5 children already with the oldest being 15 and the youngest being 7. Out of the 5 children, 4 of them are boys. Jay and Trina have been married for almost 14 yrs and have always known that they would adopt. It hasn’t been a question of if but, rather, when. They believe strongly in children. They believe that under normal circumstances a child will for the most part, give back what you give them. They believe that one of the biggest differences they can make in this world is in the life of a child. In turn, they realize that the biggest difference in their life comes from not making a difference in the life of the child but, the child making the biggest difference in theirs. They are looking with much excitement for the doors that the Lord is opening for them with these children. They believe that their "when" time has come.

EDEN for the Francis family--Bella Vista, AR
Eric and Stacey Francis have been married for 8 years and feel very blessed to have adopted 4-year-old Abbie from Guatemala just before she turned one. The Francis' found about their infertility just a few years after they were married. Despite a brief time of grieving, God used this situation to open their hearts to adoption. Since Abbie's adoption, they have prayed for another opportunity to adopt; however, until now, they didn't have a peace about a particular child.
After being led to the RR site through a link on a friend's email, they started looking through all the children and were taken aback at the number of children who are waiting. One particular child, Eden, stood out to them. With the support of their family and friends, they are trusting God to birng this newest member of their family home. They can't wait to see Eden face to face and provide the love and medical attention that she needs. When asked what their daughter Abbie thinks about Eden, she said, "I love her and I wish she was here to play with me."
