Our Most "At Risk" Children
All of the children on this page are between 3 and 5 years of age. They are all facing imminent institutionalization! The closer they get to the age of 4, the more dismal their hope is of being adopted at all. These are the children who do not have the "luxury" of sitting around and waiting to be chosen. They are truly living on borrowed time.

The children in our most popular Eastern Europe program are separated out below by the orphanages they are living in. There are no family size limitations, and multiple children from the same orphanage can be adopted during the same trip for a very low cost. MARRIED COUPLES ONLY.

The children are separated for the ease of new adoptive families in deciding if adopting two (or even three!) children is a good choice for them. Our YOUNGESTchildren in this country, ages 0-2 years, are also separated out this way. Families can choose any combination of gender or age from the same orphanage. And GRANTS CAN BE COMBINED towards the total cost of adopting more than one child.

DustyDusty (3)
Boy, Born March 17, 2005

Dusty is such a handsome little man, with blonde hair and brown eyes. He has tremendous potential, but was also born with many challenges outside of his Down syndrome. Dusty was recently transferred to this Orphanage from the one he was originally in, and is doing SO much better! He is walking now and much more active and engaged. Birth trauma affecting multiple internal organs/systems. Multiple instances of CNS damage. Does not walk. Ischemic cardiopathy, Anemic stage 3, prematurity stage 1. We are working to get more info about Dusty. Hope someone out there just falls in love, and will rescue him and give him the life he deserves, with access to proper medical care and the chance for a long, prosperous, and happy life!

JennyJenny (3)
Girl, Born November 17, 2006

Look how our little sleepy puss has grown! Little Jenny was very sleepy when one of our families first visited with her! But now she is 3 years old, with blonde hair and blue eyes. How I can't wait to see her ringlets and ribbons in her hair!

MiriamMiriam (3)

Miriam is a precious little girl who is quite high functioning and healthy. She is an orphanage favorite! She is able to speak some words, and is very active. She is described as " communicative and cheerful". She will be a delightful addition to any family! Miriam was born with a heart condition, but recently had a successful correction and is doing great!! She is blessed to have been able to have corrective surgery, but will need to be seen by a cardiologist once home for follow up.

I have $2330 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 5

ZhoraZhora (5)
Boy, Born January 2, 2007

Zhora is too cute! Zhora is short for Georgiy, so don't be confused, this is definitely a boy. Zhora is healthy, except for a minor heart murmur which should not require surgery. He is active, happy and playful, and is the perfect age to truly benefit from early intervention therapy, special education, and adequate medical care.

From one of our adoptive families who visited with him in July 2009: Please note that the boys all got buzz cuts last week when it was in the 90's here, so it looks like they are all bald!

I have $2521 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

AndreaAndrea

Girl, Born 2006

This is an awful picture, but Andrea is a beautiful, HEALTHY little girl with no record of a heart condition. Her lips are not really this red or full, just a really bad photo :((

Please give Andrea the chance to have a loving family!

I have $220 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

MelissaMelissa

Girl, Born 2006

This little muffin wasn't real happy about having her picture taken, but she's also not making it real easy to find her a family either! It is often difficult for people to see past a "bad day" and choose to bring a child into their family with so little to "go on".

Melissa has Down syndrome, but also some mild CP from slow prenatal development, for whatever reason. We hope to get a better photo of her, but it is doubtful. Having a bad picture is the number one reason children are passed over for others with a great profile pic. Please consider Miss Melissa, and give her a REASON to smile!

I have $160 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 7

MaximMaxim (7)

Boy, Born September 15, 2004

Maxim is a precious little boy who has already been sent away to the institution. He needs a family immediately!! He is 5 1/2 years old, with blonde hair and blue yes. He struggles with strabismus in both eyes and a significant tongue thrust, but surgery/glasses and OT will help with that! Please give Maxim the chance to grow up in a loving family, so he can realize his full potential!!

We have already had a family adopt from this institution, so Maxim still has an opportunity to be saved and to live the life he so richly deserves!
I have $5333 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 12

MalloryMallory (12)

Girl, Born April 8, 2007
Mallory is a beautiful girl who was born with an open oval window, but this may have closed on it's own. Mallory is very smiley and affectionate, and plays well with other children. She will really blossom in a loving family!

I have $120 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

  Please sponsor me for 21.3.10!

AnyaAnya (12)
Girl, Born December 14, 2006

Anya is a pretty little girl with unique facial features. She was born with a minor defect of interventricular and interatrial septum. A family visiting with her felt she may have some autistic tendencies, but it is also possible she has a dual diagnosis of Moebius Syndrome. We are trying to confirm this.
 www.faces-cranio.org/Disord/Moebius.htm

There is no blood test to confirm Moebius, so it is diagnosed on clinical symptoms such as a lack of facial expression and a uniquely shaped nose.

I have $634 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 13

MatthewMatthew (13)

Boy, Born February 5, 2005

There is something so soulful about this child's eyes! An old soul, maybe, but still very much a baby in need of a loving family. Matthew has brown hair and blue eyes. Matthew will be 5 in February, so he needs a family right away. He is blessed to still be at the baby house, and look how he has grown! What amazing blue eyes he has! Up and walking, very active, and a loving, gentle child. He was born with an oval window, but he is doing very well and has not been impacted by it. It may very well have already closed on it's own. He is blessed to still be at the baby house.

PLEASE GIVE MATTHEW A CHANCE TO HAVE A FAMILY!

I have $1915 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

IvannaIvanna (13)

Girl, Born November 26, 2005
Ivanna is already 4 years old and facing imminent institutionalization! She is a precious little girl, with medium brown hair and blue eyes. She is a happy little girl, but so desperately needs a loving family to help her be all she can be. Ivanna has an ASD (atrial septal defect). It is more significant than Alyona's, and she is not walking yet. She will definitely need to be seen by a cardiologist when she gets home, but she need a family quickly so proper attention can be provided for her heart condition.
Ivanna has very low tone and is not walking yet. She is much lower functioning than Alyona, but also one who will regress quickly and waste away to nothing if she is sent to an institution ;(((

Ivanna is one of those kids who will truly blossom in a family setting with love and encouragement!

Both Ivanna and Matthew are in the same orphanage and can be adopted together.

Ivanna REALLY needs a family, and will truly blossom once home. Please give her the chance to reach her full potential!
I have $1835in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 14

Andrey SAndrey S (14)

Boy, Born December 28, 2006
Andrey is a tiny little monkey! He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He has also has strabismus, which can be corrected surgically here in the US. Andrey will greatly benefit from early intervention therapy, and will just blossom the way all of our other children have! This little one has an ASD and a PDA, with some impairment of circulation. He will need heart surgery when he gets home. But he is SO young, and will greatly benefit from early intervention therapy here in the US.
From one of our adoptive families who visited with him in May 2009: " He is such a little cutie! I am not sure if he is sitting on his own because he was propped against this fence outside and I didn't get a chance to snuggle him. But he is good size, a bit small for a 2 year old, but with therapy and stimulation, it would only be a matter of time before he thrives!! "
The children in this orphanage are VERY well taken care of. They are blessed by the financial and humanitarian support of a very large aid group, meaning adequate food, stimulation, toys, and even therapeutic items. They are all being raised with the typical children, so this helps them be even more high functioning. Even more so, they are shared with us by a loving director who genuinely wants to see these angels find families. We are honored to be able to seek families for these children, and hope we can succeed in placing ALL of them very quickly!
I have $240in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Orphanage 16

PeterPeter (16)

Boy, Born February 20, 2007

Peter is a darling little boy with brown hair and brown eyes. He has so much to bring to a family, but he was born with multiple challenges in addition to his Down syndrome. From his medical records: severe delay of stato-motor development, congenital heart disease(ventricular septal defect with high degree of pulmonary hypertension), condition after closing of patent ductus arteriosus and coning of pulmonary artery, retinal angiopathy, farsightedness, nystagmus

Peter needs a family right away, so his medical complications can be addressed by US physicians, and he can finally begin to live life as he should! Happy, active, and healthy. Please give Peter this opportunity!!

Orphanage 36
LenaLena (36)
Girl, Born November 2, 2004

Lena is a beautiful little girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She was born with Down syndrome, but also struggles with the effects of possible CP and likely some autistic tendencies. She is able to walk on her own and is described as very active, but she does not socialize very much with the other children and is non verbal at this time. It is children like Lena that break my heart so badly, because in an institutional setting, which she is facing soon, she will just continue to close off into herself and truly become one of those children we envision as "institutionalized". :( I know there is a family out there for this very deserving little girl!

I have $60 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

I have $3195 in my grant fund towards the cost of my adoption!

Tatiana is a beautiful brown haired, blue eyed girl!  She is an orphanage favorite, and they are hopeful to find a loving family for her!  She is farsighted and will need corrective glasses, but she is healthy outside of that.    She does not have a heart condition.   She is walking, running, playing, etc.   She is delayed with her speech, but this is typical for children with DS.    Tatiana has already been transferred, but our facilitator shares this message from her caregivers at the baby house: "  Everyone there talked so warmly about her, saying what a nice personality this girl has, and that developmentally she was ahead of other DS kids.   As a result of it she was transferred to a "normal" preschool orphanage where majority of kids have eyes problems, but not mental ones.   Her caregiver was so kind to share this photo with me. KirillKirill

Boy, Born May 1, 2006

Kirill is a very special little boy. He is being given one chance to find a family. Placing him can mean the full referrals of many other children with Down syndrome waiting in this far western region of Russia (close to the border with Europe).

Kirill is 3 1/2 years old....his mother was very young when he was born, and she simply was not able to care for him. The truth is that there is no place for him in this society...she wasn't really given a choice but to give him up. Kirill is HEALTHY, with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes. He is a very tender and affectionate little boy.

Progress report at 2 years: He recognizes his caretakers and reacts to them calling his name. He crawls and walks with assistance and eats from a spoon. He is doing very very well considering his environment, and will really benefit from early intervention services here with his new family! At 3 1/2, he is walking and climbing everywhere like a very typical little boy! And look how cute he is in this new photo, with his glasses, he is like a little Reece! What a blessing, that his orphanage was able to provide him with glasses! Someone PLEASE save Kirill!

DarlaDarla

Girl, Born December 1, 2004

China
Special need: DS, heart is healthy
On the day of her birth this little sweetie with Down Syndrome arrived at the steps of the orphanage. She has lived happily in the orphanage and foster care. When she was learning to walk, she became more mischievous, and when she grew bigger, there wasn’t a big difference between her and other children. She can understand what you say, but just won’t do it. However, if you go with her to do what you ask, she will know what to do. She plays well with other children and is a good big sister to the younger children. Her overall motor skills are good and she has no problem walking or running. She can jump and likes to play ball. She doesn’t nap in the afternoon, but she does have time to rest. She looks at books or has quiet time so that the babies can sleep. She eats well by herself and has no problem letting others know what she needs. After an active day, she often dozes and has no problem falling asleep quickly.
In her foster home she is reported tp eat well but shows a dislike of dark green vegetables. She likes ice cream and enjoys it when she goes McDonalds for play time. She really enjoys watermelon too. She gets along well with the other children and even new children she meets during outside play in the neighborhood. Her hair is growing and is long enough to hold hair bows. She enjoys wearing dresses instead of shorts and t-shirts and always wants her picture taken. She’s a very active and well behaved, loving, little girl, who always greets people with a hug and a smile.

"In the highest Volochek live girl - Vicky. The girl's alive, radiant blue eyes, a mischievous "tail", winning smile and open face. It is well built, childishly naive and coquettish - a child wants to love, embrace, lisping with him. Âèêóëÿ and she is always glad to new people, smiles all around, laughing loudly and zalivisto, fins and happy sitting on their hands. Wick - a lovely little girl, clockwork, energetic, affectionate and sociable, and in general, little girl, whose place at home, at the table with mom and dad, where you can happily talk down, sitting on a high chair, twist and tuck into cakes with apples ...

In May 2005, in Tver maternity mom did not know that her daughter will be a bright and good, she thought that this child with Down syndrome becomes a burden and an object of ridicule, and therefore given it up ...

Vike almost 3 years, her illness with proper care, attention and care can be greatly adjusted. And now it is not very different from their peers. Vikusya already said a few words, knows the names of animals and birds can show them the picture. Of course, it is not very assiduously in the classroom, her mood quickly changed. But she already knows itself to assemble and disassemble pyramids, cups-liners, understands the differences in the sizes of objects can draw straight lines and closed lines. Likes to play with the doll, feeding her, shakes and washes. Girl with easily imitate adults, able to dress with a little help, eating - not a bit careful, but herself, asking for a pot, washes his hands ... He loves affection. Vika - a normal child.

It is so painful to see these kids whose mothers drank during their pregnancy :((( Artem's mom was clearly not interested in giving him the best chance in life. This was her first pregnancy, he was born at 38 weeks, but she smoked and drank throughout the pregnancy. His mother kept him home until he was nearly a year old, so there is no telling what other damage she may have caused him during that time. Despite his difficult beginnings, he is described as a good natured boy, and will thrive in a loving family. Boy, Born on April 12th, 2006

Vilis is a darling little boy who is just turning 3. He has light brown hair and blue eyes. Too cute! He was born with an oval window, but this may have closed on it's own already.

From an adoptive family who visited with him recently: Vilis is just darling! He is lagging behind, but not from lack of ability, just lack of opportunity and stimulation. I visited him and spent a good bit of time engaging him, he laughed and giggled, babbled some sounds...he is definitely in there and will really blossom in a loving family!! If there was some way for me to "add him to my tab", I'd do it right now. He is just aching for encouragement and challenge and praise. He really responded well to me with to toys and other stimuli. He is able to cruise the table, and I just know he will be up and walking very quickly once he is home. I was able to share some tips and techniques with the caregivers to include him in the activities of the others, to talk to him and play with him, that he WILL respond.

    Girl, Born June 8, 2004

Look at this little doll baby! Cara is HEALTHY, and quite high functioning. She is very active and happy and affectionate. She will be a wonderful addition to any family. We are seeking a family quickly for both her and Mary Margaret, as they are both nearing the time when they must be transferred to the home for severely disabled children (no other place to go). This beauty was abandoned at birth, and has been living at the children's home since that time.

From her caregivers: Emotionally: She has a high self esteem, very social, calm and cooperating with others, loves and enjoyes life. Very positive for her age, and is always smiling. She receives therapy at the CREE and goes to the Rafael Arganiz School where she receives special treatment for Down syndrome

Cara is in the same orphanage with Mary Margaret, and both girls could be adopted together.

    Ernie

    Ernie

    Boy, Born July 3, 2004

Ernie is just darling! Look at that smile!

Ernie is considered lower functioning than Cara or Mary Margaret, but he has such tremendous potential. He has shown some signs of self-aggression, but these behaviors have been greatly reduced since he was provided his own "foster mom" at the children's home and has benefited from more one on one attention. He is tiny for his age, but doing well physically. Ernie was found abandoned, there is no knowledge of any parents or other relatives :(

From his caregivers: Emotionally: Low self esteem, self-aggression, low tolerance to frustration and anxiety. He greatly needs the image of a mother, he was assigned a foster mom at the children's home and this resulted in a reduction of his self-aggression. He has definitely benefited from the one on one attention and support, both physically and emotionally.

We have requested more detail about these behaviors, and about his current skill level as far as walking, feeding himself, etc. Will post as soon as we have this information. Please consider saving Ernie! He can do so much and will just blossom in a loving family environment!
